Welcome to DavieLocated a few miles southwest of Ft. Lauderdale and north of Miami, Davie is officially considered part of the South Florida Metropolitan Area. The Town's rural atmosphere, western theme district and sprawling educational complex foster an environment that separates Davie from all other municipalities in Broward County.

History of Davie

Homes in DavieDavie was founded by a group of settlers composed of workers from the Panama Canal Zone, which gave birth to this community's original name - Zona. The name was changed to Davie in honor of Randolph P. Davie, a developer, who bought about 27,000 acres in the area. It was carved out of Everglades land that was mostly under water. The early history of the town was dominated by drainage issues.

Davie has always had a reputation as a "Western" town. It boasts a huge horse owning population and once was home to many herds of cattle. In recent years commercial and residential development has discouraged such practices but Davie still tries to maintain western feel. The classic movie, "Caddyshack" was also filmed in Davie.
